Not all wood fences are built the same. While many contractors can install a similar-looking fence, the difference is often in the materials and construction details you don’t notice until years later.
At Abbey Fence & Deck, we focus on building wood fences for long-term durability—not just curb appeal.

STRONGER GATES AND POSTS
Gates take some of the most wear on a fence, so we build them accordingly. Abbey uses 6×6-inch gate posts rather than the smaller 4×4-inch posts commonly used on lighter-duty installations.
We also use larger, commercial-grade hinges designed to help resist sagging and keep gates operating properly over time.

CUSTOM-BUILT, NOT ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL
We hand-cut our custom pickets and posts to fit the individual project. We also handmake our lattice using thicker wood than many prefabricated lattice products
These details may seem small, but together they make a difference in how a fence looks, performs, and holds up over time.
THICKER WOOD, BUILT TO LAST
Our wood fence pickets are 1 inch thick, compared with the 5/8-inch material sometimes used by smaller contractors. That extra thickness provides a sturdier, more substantial fence.
We also purchase our materials in bulk, allowing us to pass along savings to our customers while maintaining the quality of our materials.

DETAILS THAT PROTECT YOUR FENCE
Every Abbey fence post receives a post cap, helping prevent water from entering through the top of the post and contributing to premature rot.
Our posts are buried 32–36 inches deep, below Maryland’s approximately 30-inch frost line, and set in wet pour concrete. These provide greater stability through Maryland’s seasonal freeze and thaw cycles.
